History of Ram Lenoir City, TN

Today, we know Ram as one of the best truck manufacturers on the planet. But how did it get there?

The Ram hood ornament that distinguishes Dodge vehicles from other brands has been around since 1933, but it wasn't until 1981 that the Ram name itself was first used on the redesigned 1981 Ram and Power Ram, which replaced the outgoing Dodge D series pickup trucks and B series vans.

The first generation lasted until 1993 but at the time struggled to compete against Ford and GM trucks, until the first Cummins engine was introduced to the 250 and 350 pickup and chassis cabs in 1989.

In 1994, the second generation of Dodge Ram trucks received a thorough redesign that led to skyrocketing sales, going from 78,000 in 1993 to a whopping 480,000 in 1996, all powered by variations of Cummins Turbo diesel engines.

In 2001, the third generation Ram came with an all-new frame, suspension, interiors, powertrains, and sheet metal. Sales continued to rise throughout the early millennium and in 2010, Ram Trucks was established as a division of Chrysler. No longer would the pickup trucks be sold under the Dodge Ram moniker-from then on, Ram was a brand of its own dedicated to selling the best available trucks on the market.

So strong was its legacy that Dodge stopped using the Ram logo despite having been the first to use it. It's now exclusive to Ram pickup trucks, which means that when you see it at Lenoir City Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, you can be certain it's a sign of quality!
