The 2016 RAM 1500 Sport vs 2016 RAM 1500 Laramie. What’s Your Choice?

Serving Lenoir City , Knoxville , and Maryville, TN

Pickup trucks are known as workhorses, but the very best ones offer much more than towing ability, engine power, and awesome off-road performance. That’s where the RAM 1500—a ¾-ton full-size pickup truck and the most popular entry in Chrysler’s RAM brand—comes into play. Now in its fourth production cycle, the RAM 1500 celebrates its 2016 model year as one of the top full-size pickup trucks in the United States, according to aggregated data of rankings and reviews by U.S. News & World Report. The 2016 RAM 1500 presents several trims; positioned in the middle are the Sport and Laramie, which consequently offer the best value for the money.

Fuel Economy

The 2016 RAM 1500 is particularly notable for its good fuel economy—specifically with its available diesel engine. If you go with the Laramie trim, you can switch the standard 3.6-liter V6 engine with the optional 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. Coupled with rear-wheel drive, it produces 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, which are some of the best numbers on the truck. Plus, the EcoDiesel does so without sacrificing power; it comes with 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is usually an afterthought with pickup trucks, but that’s an exception with the RAM brand.

Interior Features

Also an afterthought on pickup trucks in interior comfort. The 2016 RAM 1500 bucks that trend with a nicely styled cabin. Standard on both trims are front-seat and steering-wheel heating capability and two-way power lumbar adjustment on the driver’s seat, with the option to add leather seat covering. With the Sport trim in particular, you also get 10-way power adjustability on the driver’s seat. On the Laramie, it is joined by 6-way power adjustability on the front passenger seat, and there’s a memory system for the driver’s seat. That way, comfortability, especially on longer trips, is maximized. Also, there’s dual-zone automatic climate control for occupants up front to individually adjust temperature settings, and a universal transceiver is on board for remote-controlling garage doors.

Optional Drive-trains

Finally, with the Sport and Laramie, you have a wealth of components to create a trim combination that works perfectly for you. You can go with rear-wheel drive, or you can opt for a four-wheel drivetrain for enhanced traction. In terms of body style, you have a choice between Quad Cab and Crew Cab, and box choices consist of a 5’ 7” and a 6’ 4”. The Sport trim in particular also gives you the option of the smaller, Regular Cab body style.
