What’s the Difference Between the 2017 Dodge Charger SE vs the 2017 Dodge Charger SXT?

Serving Lenoir City , Knoxville , and Maryville , TN

Since its name first appeared in 1964, the Dodge Charger has been produced as a subcompact hatchback, full-size sedan, and luxury coupe spread out in six production cycles. Now in its seventh production cycle, the Charger is reimaged as a full-size sedan that primarily takes design cues from the pony car body style. The Charger is one of the few large cars that matches performance with affordability, and nowhere in its trim line-up is that more evident than its base-level SE and SXT variants.

How Does the Dodge Charger SE and SXT Perform?

With the 2017 Dodge Charger SE or SXT, you get an engine that’s efficient enough for acceleration or merging into traffic. At the front is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, which manufacturer Chrysler puts on a lot of its vehicles. The Pentastar sporting a compact, lightweight design produces 292 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. It is hitched to the TorqueElite 8-speed automatic transmission for gear shifting convenience. A rear-wheel drivetrain is available for an evening out the Charger’s weight from front to back, since the engine is placed at the front and the driven wheels are the rear ones. As a result, performance is significantly improved; for example, fuel economy is measured at 19 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Even though the other drivetrain choice (all-wheel drive) drops those numbers to 18 mpg and 27 mpg, respectively, it has the advantage of enhanced traction on less-than-favorable driving surfaces.

Handling

The 2017 Dodge Charger SE and SXT is one of only two cars in the full-size sedan class to offer rear-wheel drive, instead of the more common front-wheel drive. In addition to better fuel efficiency, the rear-wheel-drive enhances handling, since the weight distribution is closer to 50/50. By contrast, front-wheel-drive vehicles add weight to the front of the vehicle; the driven wheels are the front ones, which are located in the same area as the engine. The 2017 Charger also has considerable cornering ability, thanks to the rack-and-pinion steering, and the suspension independent MacPherson struts in the front, five-link design in the back stem a lot of the turbulence from rougher terrain. Also worthy of mention are all-speed traction control to keep the tires on the driving surface, electronic stability control to prevent skidding or losing command of the Charger, electronic roll mitigation to combat wheel lift, and hill start assists to prevent the car from rolling backward when shifting from park to drive.
